Reading Makes Everything Possible!

The young sleuth smiled. Although she was glad it was all over, she could not help but look forward to another mystery to solve.

Another Nancy Drew mystery?

I wondered how soon I would be able to return to Midland Public Library to discover the latest mystery that Nancy would solve. This quote is from Carolyn Keene’s, “The Hidden Staircase, Nancy Drew.” I was captivated by Ms. Keene’s famous children’s series. My world of learning was getting larger each day and it was all because of my best friend’s mother.

I grew up in Midland, Texas on Parker Street and Sue Cornelius was my best friend. In the early 60’s, I tagged along with Sue and her mother, Maggie Cornelius to visit the Midland Library. It was my first time and I signed up for my very own library card. Sue and I grabbed an armful of books and headed back to the family station wagon. We began reading as Mrs. Cornelius drove home.

We visited the library at least once every month for several years, and those visits were the beginning of my love for books and reading. And I love Mrs. Cornelius for introducing me to the wonderful world of reading where everything is possible.

My best friend, Sue, and her Mom, are present with the Lord and will always be in my heart. I am thankful because they opened their hearts and home to me and made my childhood beautiful!
